Note to all students: Your course syllabus is located in the table of contents in your PEAK class under the title "Course Materials" and your grade breakdown for PEAK is also located in Course Materials. PEAK coursework is mandatory. I will provide a general pacing for each week; however, PEAK is intended to be completed at your own pace. All students must be actively completing PEAK coursework and making progress. If you need a test or quiz reset on PEAK for another chance at a better grade, contact me and I will provide opportunities to get a better grade.
Grades
Workload outside of PEAK that I assign will be graded as follows:
1. Essays, Poems, Composition pieces (fiction, non-fiction, biography etc.): 25 points
2. Journal Entries: 5 points
3. Projects: 50 points
4. Reading Summaries/Comprehension: 5 points
Grades are based on thoroughness, originality, and completion based on the guidelines I provide for the given assignment.
Attendance Notice: All students must attend all schedules online meetings regularly at the designated times on your Distance Learning Schedule. If you are not present at the meeting, parents will be notified of the absence and students will need to make up the missing days with a Friday meeting. Friday's Attendance will also be based on work completed throughout the week and turned in no later than Friday at 12:25PM. You are required to finish all assigned work on time. If you know in advance that you will be absent for a specific amount of time, please let me know in advance so your work can be assigned prior.
I will be available on Friday for office hours from 9:00AM until 12:25 PM.
Zoom/Google Meet Online Meetings: Zoom and Google Meet will be the primary platforms for online face-to-face communication. Google Meet can be accessed through your Gmail apps in the top right corner next to your account avatar when you log into your email. I will send you a link to either Zoom or Google Meet through your email. I will use Zoom to start with and migrate to Google Meet if it serves to be a better platform in the event students experience crashing or lag problems with Zoom.
Behavior should be appropriate during online meetings. The objective is to have a space where everyone is able to learn and discuss. Inappropriate behavior or behavior that significantly interferes with the online meetings will result in getting kicked out of the meeting and a parent contact notice.
English Objective: The goals of these courses are to help all of you become better readers, writers, speakers, and communicators of the English language. The purpose of learning more about the English language is to help you gain access to deeper knowledge and meaning, and fine tune your skills in English so you can functionally adapt to the world around you.
